Nothing planned today so woke up around 09:00. The weather seems to be the same every day – overcast but with the sun poking through in several places.
Decided it was decent enough to walk into Queenstown so headed off, stopping for a coffee. The path followed the lake shore, with great views across the lake so more photos were taken. The walk took about 2 hours but that was mainly because Song wanted photos every couple of minutes; one with sunglasses on, one off, one portrait, one landscape, and a final one of me with a fake smile. We ended up in the Queenstown Gardens but decided to go for some food and a sit down. We found a place in one of the 3 main streets. I had a steak sandwich and Song had bacon and eggs. I had just about finished mine when I discovered it came with a side order of caterpillar which I didn’t order. I’m sure Bear Grylls would have enjoyed it but I wasn’t too keen so pointed it out to the waitress who said the meal was free. I suppose it could have been worse, I could have found half a caterpillar.
We poked around the shops for a while, then went for an ice cream, my first of the trip. We realised we’re generally having one meal a day, maybe the portions are bigger here, but we’ve not been hungry.
Went back to the gardens and walked around a bit, more photos were taken, then back to the bus for the last time. I think we could have bought one for the amount we spent on fares.
Last night at the hotel, flying to Napier on the North Island tomorrow and picking up a hire car.
