Day 4 – Lombok

Didn’t sleep well, probably the different environment. Woke up in the middle of the night and saw a flash from outside, looked out the window and there was a thunderstorm in the distance, and occasionally the lightning was so bright it lit up the whole ocean to the extent that I could see a cargo ship a few km away.
Got up at about 8 and went down to the private restaurant for breakfast; we both had eggs Benedict, then went to the cafe for a coffee.
The weather was still very humid and it was cloudy, and they said it would rain.
The only thing to do ashore was to visit beaches or a rain forest, neither of which appealed so we decided to stay on the boat for today and just relax.
Checked on the cat using the webcams, our neighbours and a friend are visiting a couple of times a day to feed her and keep her company which is really good of them and saves us worrying. We thought about putting her in a cattery but the vet said she would be less stressed at home.
Just pottered about the boat, sitting in the lounges, reading, watching downloads etc. We had a drinks package included in the fare, so I felt I had to have at least one drink a day to get value. I saw a lot of people gathered around the bars, I can imagine that’s one of the attractions for them – drink as much as they like.

Went wandering a bit, exploring the ship, found the theatre where we saw the evening’s entertainment just about to start. A middle-aged white guy came out onto stage in a shiny blue suit and started to sing very enthusiastically, belting out a medley of 70’s hits. It was terrible. We left when he launched into “Begin the Beguine” – look it up on YouTube, it’s as bad as you think.

Went back to the room, watched some TV downloads then went to sleep.
