Day 3 – Lazy day and Sunset

Didn’t sleep well despite being tired from the walk, woke up around 08:00, pottered around for a while then went to the Town Square for a coffee. Got there and only one of the cafes was open and there was a huge queue for coffee so decided to have a look at the shops but after 15 minutes decided there wasn’t a lot there so just went back to the room to watch TV and laze around.

Went out to lunch at the same place as yesterday, I had a burger and Song had a prawn and garlic pizza. Not a lot to do, we thought about getting the coach around the resort and visit a camel farm but decided it wasn’t worth it so had a look around an art gallery dedicated to indigenous art – not my thing but Song likes it and considered buying something, she said she’d think about it.

Went back to the room then I decided that since I’m on holiday I deserved a beer so I went to the bar and had one, sat there watching TV I’d downloaded. Very lazy but we knew there wasn’t much else to do here, and we are booked on a Sunset thing later which takes us out to a viewing spot to watch Uluru in the sunset. It’s going to be cold so we’ll wrap up.

Back to the room to relax until we headed out on the coach to the viewing place, then Song decided she wanted a piece of artwork so went back to the gallery and returned with a tube filled with a painting – we’re going to have to check it in and wait at the baggage area when we get back, it’s too big to take on the plane.

They had set up a table with nibbles (cheese, biscuits, dips) and sparkling wine, and a great view of the rock. Unfortunately there was a road between us and the rock so we had to time our photos so that cars weren’t visible.

Stood there for a while, it wasn’t too cold, taking loads of photos as the sun went down. The colour of the rock gradually changed from red to orange to a purple as the light intensity changed. Really incredible. We got back in the coach a few minutes after sunset and went back to the hotel.

Skipped dinner, watched TV and went to sleep, tomorrow we’re going home.

This was the second time I’ve been to Uluru, last time I climbed it and did the sunset viewing and also went to The Olgas – this time we did the sunrise walk and the sunset viewing. Song said we might come back, it’s only a few hours away so it might be on the cards, and we can do a couple of other things.

If you’ve never been to Uluru, it really is spectacular and seeing photos just isn’t the same, I’d recommend coming.
